• I've been asked to provide proof of identity and address. What does this mean?

Many criminal record checks require a proof of identity and a proof of address document from the candidate.

If you are undergoing a criminal record check, we may request that you provide us with these documents.

The proof of identity document must show your current full name and date of birth.

This is used to confirm your personal details, and can be any of the following documents:

  • Passport
  • Official travel document
  • Driving licence (old style paper licence or photo card)
  • Birth Certificate
  • Visa
  • National Identity Card (EU only)
  • Armed Forces Card
  • Adoption Certificate
    PASS Card
  • Employee ID Card
  • National Student Union ID / University ID
  • UK Government Department Pass / Card
  • Firearms Licence (UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man only)

Your proof of address document must include your full current name and address, and must also be dated within the last 3 months.

This document can be any of the following:

  • Utility bill
  • Driving licence (old style paper licence or photo card)
  • Bank or building society statement
  • Council tax bill
  • Phone bill
  • P60/P45
  • Credit Card statement
  • Benefit statement
  • Store card statement
  • Insurance Certificate
  • Payslip (we can only accept a payslip that includes your name, address and pay date together on the same page)
  • Financial letter (i.e., Pension, Endowment, ISA)
  • Tenancy Agreements
  • MOT Tax Reminder
  • Vehicle Registration Document / V5C

You should provide two different documents—one from each list.

We are unable to proceed with the same document for both the proof of identity and proof of address. Both documents must contain the correct, up-to-date information.
