You can provide access to your employer of your DBS certificate in 2 ways.
1. When filling the BackgroundScreening form, the system will ask if you wish to give consent to your employer and Verifile accessing the DBS certificate such as the below picture. (Electronic certificate access).
If you provide your consent by clicking the option as shown above, your employer can view the DBS certificate online through the DBS's own website. ** For Basic DBS check only**
2. For Standard and Enhanced DBS checks, DBS sends the original paper certificate directly to the applicant's current address through post.
Once you have received this, you can provide this to your employer. **
You can also allow your employer access to view your certificate online. Please click on the below link for guidance: Layout 1 (publishing.service.gov.uk).
Grant Consent
• You (the candidate) can grant upfront consent as part of your basic DBS check application, which provides consent to a third party to view your basic certificate once issued.
• You can grant auto consent after the basic DBS certificate is issued, to enable a third party with a DBS online account to view the basic DBS certificate.
• You can grant standalone consent after the basic DBS certificate is issued, to enable a third party who does not have a DBS online account to view your basic DBS certificate.
To grant consent to a third party after a basic DBS certificate has been issued.
1. Navigate to the webpage https://barring.homeoffice.gov.uk/HomeOfficeExternalPortal/.
2. Click ‘Log in’ in the top right-hand corner of the page.
3. Enter your Username, Password and CAPTCHA. Then click ‘Log in’.
DBS present you with your DBS online account landing page and whichever services are available to you.
If you don’t have a DBS Online Account, DBS will send you login details via post once they complete the check.
To grant consent, your DBS online account needs to be linked to your DBS Profile. If the Authorisation code is visible, you will need to follow the DBS guide, Link online account to product - Layout 1 (publishing.service.gov.uk).
If your DBS online account is linked to your DBS Profile, you will see your basic disclosure certificate(s). You should click the ‘Manage consent’ link.
DBS presents the candidate with Request a One Time Passcode (OTP) screen— if you have a registered mobile number, the OTP is sent to your phone. If not, the OTP is sent to your email address.
4. Click the ‘Continue’ button.
5. The system will ask you to answer 1 of your security questions, enter 3 characters from your memorable word and enter your OTP—then click the ‘Submit’ button.
You'll see a Manage Consent screen.
Auto consent
1. You may click ‘Grant consent to a third party who has a DBS online account’ link.
2. You will next see a View Consent History page – and should click the ‘Grant consent’ button.
3. Please enter an email of a recipient that already has a DBS online account and select ‘Validate’.
The name of the individual will appear in the Recipient’s Name field, if the details entered match the details of a DBS online account.
4. You should next select the Product type from the dropdown arrow ‘Basic Certificate’.
5. Next, select the Product from the dropdown arrow and select Add.
6. Select the calendar icon and in the 'Access Valid Until' field choose a date to give the recipient access until.
7. Select ‘Grant Consent’.
Consent will be automatically approved.
Standalone consent
1. You should click ‘Grant consent to a third party who does not have a DBS online account’ link.
2. You're presented with a View Consent History page – and should click the ‘Grant consent’ button.
3. You should enter the details of the third party to whom you wish to grant consent to.
4. In the field Product Type, select the dropdown arrow and select ‘Basic Certificate’.
5. Select the dropdown arrow in the Product field and select the Basic Product Number. Click 'Add'.
6. The system will then display the product at the bottom of the page. Select the 'Access Valid Until' date by selecting the calendar icon.
7. Select the green 'Generate' button.
8. Select 'Agree' to the disclaimer.
Consent will be automatically approved.

** If you do not receive the DBS certificate via post within 14 days from when it was dispatched, you can request for a reprint from DBS with the certificate number. You can contact Verifile to obtain the DBS certificate number to contact DBS.
