This article covers what to do when you have two first names, and receive an error on your Background Screening form, which states that the driving licence number does not match the provided name.
If you have two first names (or a double-barrelled surname), it is likely that you'll receive an error stating your driving licence number does not match the name you have provided.
This is because your driving licence is created using your personal information, including your name.
When the DVLA encounters a candidate with two first names, they'll usually enter one of these names as a middle name, rather than two first names.
This means that when the Verifile Background Screening form reads the driving licence number, it will pick up one of your first names as a middle name, and as a result will recognise that this does not match the way you have entered your name on the screening form.
In order to proceed, you will need to select 'No' to holding a valid driving licence.
This means that you are unable use your driving licence as an ID document for any criminal record checks. We'd recommend that you review the relevant criminal record check page on your form, and select alternative documents, such as a passport or birth certificate.
If this is an error you've encountered, it'd be prudent to contact the DVLA and request that they update your driving licence accordingly. This'll mean that your driving licence can then be used on any subsequent applications.
