During your background check, if we have requested you to provide documents to prove your activity during the gap period between employment or study, this means you are being screened under BS7858 (British Standard).
The BS7858 standard is a code of practice that provides recommendations for the screening of individuals working in a secure environment.
If you are going to work in a position where security measures are highly important, then we will screen you under this standard as per the hiring company policy.
The requirements of BS7858 checks are:
- If you have an unemployment/gap period of over 31 days within the last 5 years of activity history, you will need to provide supporting documents as evidence of what you have been doing during the inactive period.
- You need to provide 2 supporting documents covering the beginning and end of the gap period.
- If the gap period is longer than 31 days, e.g., 2 -3 months or more, you will need to provide 3 documents to prove your activity covering the beginning, the middle and the end of the activity period.
- All the documents must have a full date, candidate's name and the purpose mentioned and come from a genuine source.
Failure to meet the BS7858 Standard may lead the prospective employer to make a decision to stop the hiring process immediately.
